This week we got to meet the new Ed Tech professor. Dr. Cummings sat in and helped to moderate the first web conference of this brand new class. I have finished most of the reading and have worked to go through the basic parts of the class. I had not gotten to the project at the time of the web conference. I had however completed the quote needed for the discussion board and the progress monitor. These two pieces were fairly easily done and gotten out of the way earlier in the week. The bulk of the work left lies with writing reflections and setting up everything needed for the group project.
Dr. Cummings told us at first that the project was by yourself, which means that I could do physics this time instead of elementary or middle school. My last group was primarily elementary teachers, and I had to step outside of my comfort zone to help produce the project. This itself was not a bad thing, but the thought of focusing solely on the content I teach was refreshing. This stance on a group project changed when she saw the number of people that are in the Educational Administration program. She asked for volunteers and I volunteered to help out one of the Ed Admin people.
The remainder of the conference shifted focus to what a project and then a group project would look like. I had not had a chance to look over the project overview and had some real basic questions. I asked those questions, but really honestly needed to just review the document. While Dr. Cummings and Dr. Sanders were quite accommodating to my basic level questions, it was something that I need to work on for later. I am usually more prepared than that for a web conference, but with the group project being changed to a solo project and then back to a group I went in not looking at the assignment.
This week was pretty straightforward. The most valuable thing that was said was the fact that you should work ahead. I would love to work ahead and get as much done as possible. The assignment itself of creating a lesson seems fairly clear, but comments from both professors may require me to do a little Response to Intervention (RtI) training. Since I am at an early college high school now the student ability levels are a lot closer together than the traditional high school. This project forces me to shift back to general education. I need this as I am applying for jobs that are outside of the Early College world.
I feel extremely weak in designing a differentiated lesson with technology. I have designed plenty of lessons but ability level is something that I am always shaky on. I plan to look up a few resources over the next week to help me address these issues, and hope with the help of my partner that I can create a lesson that meets all the criteria, and allows me to ad to my tool kit.
