School year projects!
This past year, I have worked on several different projects thanks to the 1:1 initiative. Below you will find an outline of the projects that I have worked on and the general overview of what these accomplished. These are in reversed chronological order, and showcase some of the various solutions that we have come up with as a school for a myriad of problems.
Travel Form: Digitized
My last project of the year helped to create a travel form that the district used. I based this off of a presentation that I saw at TXGOO on using Google Forms for Admin. The basic premise is that it will help to allow an easier workflow. This uses two different add ons, and requires that you have a google drive account. I have included a look at the form below. For more details continue reading about it here.
Induvidualized degree Plans
The question came up since we are an Early College High School, can we send out differentiated lesson plans. The answer to this question is yes. It is tied into each student having a gmail account through the district. We used DOCTOPUS to help create and distribute those plans.
To start:
You need the graduation plans and a spreadsheet with a roster set up through Doctopus. It will create a series of documents for each student that the counselor can then edit and make changes on. The students have a live document that they can see. The screenshot below shows what a general degree plan looks like. These were shared, and could even be shared with students using the group feature of DOCTOPUS.

This project is really easy to use, and helps to create a plan that is easily done with the counselor. No matter what the level this can be shared with students or parents easily. Once you are done you can just transfer the ownership over to the students.
Gamification of the classroom
This project is extremely extensive. The goal is to mimic the experience that a student goes through when they play a game. The project changes the traditional role of grading to that of mastery. There are several key parts that have to be addressed when taking on a project of this magnitde. The first hurdle is the tool that you are going to use. I choose 3DGamelab, SchoolCraft is another tool that exists that I am going to learn a little more about. The second is adapting your curriculum to the gaming environment. Finally, come the adaptation of the grading schema to reflect the progress and mastery goals that the gaming environment provides. For more information on this click here.
